In Merseyside, Crosby is a town that is coastal in the Sefton Metropolitan Borough. Meaning "village with cross", Crosby was known in Old Norse as Krossabyr. In 1848, the Southport, Crosby, and Liverpool Rail opening resulted in Crosby's growth as a Liverpool suburb.
